How to Style a Chikankari Kurti

Good chikankari reads in daylight and in photographs without shouting. Rafiq Ahmed's studio plans stitch density at the yoke and hem so the arm can lift — embroidery that cannot move is not clothing. Our kurtis follow that rule: enough shadow for a function, never so heavy you need help getting into a car.

Pair a white-on-white or ivory kurti with straight palazzos or slim cotton trousers. Flat kolhapuris or minimal sandals keep the line clean. Skip a dupatta if the neckline is already embroidered; add thin gold hoops instead of a heavy necklace.

For a work lunch that runs into a family pooja, carry a lightweight dupatta in a contrasting solid — ochre, sage, or soft pink — draped over one shoulder only.

Move to stronger thread contrast or a second accent colour in the embroidery. Swap trousers for a flowing skirt or wide palazzo in silk-cotton. Add statement earrings and leave the neck bare if the yoke is busy.
